This competition is as fierce as the thousands of chowder lovers who lined-up—with commemorative mugs in hand—an hour before the 24 anonymous local restaurants started ladling more than 4,000 cups of their best New England and Manhattan chowders.
The field wasn’t large but the competition was huge. The three entrants in the chowder contest held at the second annual Westhampton Beach Oyster Festival were Sydney’s, Cor-J Seafood and New Moon Café. The winner was chosen by popular vote and posted on the website of the Kiwanis Club of Greater Westhampton, which sponsored the event.
