his is the weekend to go to Montauk. We already told you about the Seafood Festival; now, when that closes up at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 13, roll into downtown for La Brisa‘s closing party. There will be a guest DJ and their full dinner and cocktail menus. Edible had our subscriber appreciation party there this summer and the tacos, which are at the end of the now-famous Taco Trail, are to die for. The restaurant will reopen in May.
The funky little restaurant and bar has a split personality in more ways than one. If we were not three blocks away from the Atlantic ocean, I could have sworn we were in Europe. There’s definitely a surfer’s vibe. And a bubble machine.
The actual village of Sag Harbor isn’t even a mile long, and they still manage to have food for every tastebud. It’s hard to list them all. Here are some of my favorites.
Don’t get me wrong, Candy Kitchen’s ice cream is unbelievable, but their grilled cheese is on a whole other level.
The good news is that summer doesn’t really end on Labor Day and nearly all your favorite joints (including those fleeting summer popups) will still be open after Tumbleweed Tuesday. Many stick around until Columbus Day or even Thanksgiving.
Ah, Grand Central Oyster Bar. Nestled like a pearl in the architecturally stunning Grand Central Terminal, it’s a veritable temple to the briny shellfish that is so quintessentially New York. And on Tuesday August 5, the Oyster Bar is celebrating National Oyster Day with a special oyster menu and some fun oyster events.
Two beloved Montauk institutions have reopened as one and Montaukers in the know are again picking up their forks and digging into some of the best grub on the East End. The West Lake Clam and Chowder House has moved into the old Salivar’s overlooking the Montauk Harbor entrance and docks.
Monday is Industry Day at Montauk Beach House. The old RonJon got gussied up three years ago when the Polynesian-themed motel was turned into a private club in the heart of Montauk and the tiki god standing guard over the village turned gold.
