Looking for something to do this weekend? Look no further! On Saturday, June 6, Peconic Green Growth will host its first annual NoFo Blue + Green Tours and Workshops. From noon to 7 p.m. singletons and families alike will be able to tour the North Fork’s best sustainable sites — from biodynamic and sustainable animal-pasture farms, to butterfly and rain gardens.
The day’s activities will begin at the Tour Hub — Heron Suites Hotel at Port of Egypt, Southold — and will include films, workshops, and a panel discussion on Alternative Ways to Treating Wastewater—Options and Current Pilots. A reception at 5 p.m. will follow. The tour itself will include stops at Briermere Farm (site of biodynamic farming/composting), Gabrielson Farm (green greenhouse), Waterwash (stormwater mitigation), Wickham’s (bee hives/ fruit farm sustainable farming), 8 Hands Farm (sustainable sheep farm), Cornell Marine Center (rain garden, butterfly garden installation, coastal plant greenhouse), Lillian Ball (home with roof gardens), KK’s The Farm (biodynamic), Cindy Pease Art Studio (environmental artist), and Garden Fusion (herb farm, best practices).
Tickets are either $20 (in advance) or $25 (on the day), and will include admission to all panels and workshops, as well as a wine reception from 5 -7 p.m. All children under the age of 6 are invited to tag along for free.
Sponsored by Peconic Green Growth — a local nonprofit organization dedicated to providing sustainable solutions to environmental issues — NoFo Blue + Green is sure to be the perfect springtime event! For more information, and to purchase tickets in advance, you can visit their website here.
