Is the most anticipated day in the winegrowing year. Will it be earlier than last year, will it be later? Which will pop first? When will we really see the juices flowing through the vines and bursting out to signal the opening of growing season? There’s about, oh, 364 more just as anticipated days in the growing year really, like harvest, but seeing these little babies open up really puts winegrowers on alert: there’s still many things that can go wrong: a freak hail storm could knock the buds off or an unwelcome freeze could kill them, and there goes your whole growing season; no wine for you or you or you.
