Delivery? Skip the Pizza and Order Spring from Rustic Roots

Spring is at our doorstep, and so is Rustic Roots, a food delivery service that brings organic, locally sourced goods right to the welcome mats of Manhattan, Long Island and East End residents. Their Spring CSA is up for sale and their baskets will now include the option of tuna, flounder and other fresh fish caught by area fishermen.

Founded in 2011 and growing ever since, Rustic Roots focuses on offering variety. According to their website, the new spring basket can include: baby arugula, radishes, early season greens, several varieties of apples, red beets, carrots, potatoes, yams, broccoli rabe, Swiss chard, collard greens, baby bok choy, Toscano kale, spinach, escarole, baby turnips and more. The cherry on top of this assortment will be ramp onions, the sought-after wild bulbs only found three weeks of the year.

Wicker basket filled with fresh fruits and vegetables

If the bounty of this harvest sounds a bit overwhelming, Rustic Roots helps customers create a profile in order to customize individual baskets.

“If you tell us you don’t like kale or parsnips, we won’t include them. Or, if you love tomatoes and blueberries, we’ll add more,” says Rustic Roots cofounder Jeff Moore.

Rustic Roots works with several different farms to put together their baskets so they can offer items that can be made into full meals. Weekly baskets come with e-mailed recipes.

“Our goal is to have our customers get something new and different every week,” Moore says.
