Bloody Mary Contest on November 17 at Outerbanks Restaurant

There’s something about the fall, with an early snowstorm to boot, to make one’s thoughts turn to Bloody Marys, like the make-your-own incarnation shown above that Nick & Toni’s calls “The Board.” It’s almost like a meal: the vitamin C and heft of the tomato juice, the sinus-clearing jolt of the horseradish and the umami of the Worcestershire. The celery seed could add some vitamins and fiber; so you’re done.

Outerbanks restaurant at the Indian Island Golf Course (whose food we covered in our local golf course eats roundup) will be taking advantage of this late-fall craving and the spirit of competition on Sunday, November 17 with their first Bloody Mary Competition starting at 2 p.m. There will be a raw bar and a cigar bar, as well as area chefs and bartenders throwing down for the honor of best Bloody Mary. The Murph’s will be giving out samples and local restaurants will be presenting their recipes for a popular vote.
