It really was a beautiful, and some said magical, night for the fund-raiser held at 8 Hands Farm last Sunday to raise money for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. A Love Shared is a project started and powered forward by Gerry Hayden, chef at North Fork Table & Inn, who was diagnosed with the disease in 2011.
The fundraiser was hella successful. The event sold out and then the auction netted more than $100,000 with at least five people paying $13,000 each for dinner for 20 people cooked by Hayden and Chef Charlie Palmer of Aureole in New York, where Hayden worked before moving to the East End.
And another fundraiser hit the scene on Sunday—by the newly created Long Island Culinary Collaboration—sauces conceived by chefs that took part in the dinner. Each represents an aspect of their cuisine and the bounty of the East End. The sauces are made by Jeri Woodhouse, of a Taste of the North Fork, and will be available on the A Love Shared website as a package of 12.
