Each year our local metro, Newsday, puts out a 100 best restaurants list. [Paywall for non Optimum users.] The paper’s reviewers are busy year round finding out the best deals, the best romantic places, the best places for families and, of course, the best food. Although the East End is small portion of our entire island, we still represent when it comes to food. Don’t just take our word for it. Newsday knows it too.
The newspaper divides its 100 best restaurants into 10 categories: best Italian; best seafood; best Mediterranean; best New American; best steak houses; best international restaurants; best cheap eats; best sushi; best Asian fusion and best Asian. Out of each category, one restaurant is highlighted as the best of the best; the rest are not ranked. Here’s their East End favorites after a year of sipping, slurping, dining and wine-ing.
Best Italian Restaurants: 18 Bay and Nick & Toni’s.
Best Seafood Restaurant: Plaza Café took the top spot with Fishbar, Inlet in Montauk, and Noah’s in the top 10.
Turkuaz Grill in Riverhead was in the in top 10 Mediterranean restaurants.
Almond was one of the the 10 best New American restaurants.
The Palm was one of the 1o best steak houses.
Topping Rose was named as the best international restaurant with the Riverhead Project and Stone Creek Inn taking two spots in the top 10.
