The Amagansett Food Institute is hosting a workshop on the ways in which the new Food Safety Modernization Act will affect East End farmers. The workshop–for farmers, food entrepreneurs, and anyone who is interested in this topic–will be given by local food lawyer Jason Foscolo.
The event will be held Thursday, June 20 at 6 p.m. in the Silas Marder Gallery on 120 Snake Hollow Road. It is free for members of AFI and $25 for non-members. Space is limited, please RSVP to amagansettfood@gmail.com.
President Obama signed the FSMA in January of 2011. The act represents the first time food safety laws have been restructured on a national level since the 1930s. FSMA will expand the powers of the FDA to locate food safety concerns by addressing standards for on-farm produce production and processing facilities.
