Coffee beans from Southampton-based Hampton Coffee Company are now available at all 43 King Kullen supermarkets. Hampton Coffee is also available at the four Wild By Nature stores run by King Kullen.
King Kullen has been know to carry local produce; the lettuces and vegetables of Schmidt Farm in Riverhead can be found on the shelves of the Cutchogue store.
Urging local food stores to carry local food is part of the Locavore Challenge sponsored by the Northeast Organic Farming Association of New York.
Neighborhood food markets are usually very receptive to customer requests. And most receive deliveries from J. Kings, a Long Island-based food distributor that works with many local farms.
It can’t hurt to ask.
