Sixth Annual North Fork Foodie Tour Set for Sept. 9

It’s’ not too early to get tickets for the 2012 food tour sponsored by the North Fork Reform Synagogue on Sunday, September 9 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Foodie Tour is a self-guided exploration of local artisans who produce distinctive foods and practice methods of sustainable agriculture helping to preserve our world. Tickets are still $25; children 12 and under are free.

The Foodie Tour will headquarter at Peconic Land Trust’s Learning Center at Charnews Farm, 3005 Youngs Avenue in Southold, between Routes 25 and 48.

Starting at Charnews, participants will meet Chris Browder of Browder’s Birds, Stephanie Gaylor of Invincible Summer Farms. From there sites include Patty’s Berries and Bunches and Harbes Farm in Mattituck, Ty Llwyd farm in Riverhead, owned by Liz and David Wines, Luce+Hawkins Restaurant in Jamesport, Krupski’s Farm in Southold, Catapano Goat Dairy in Southold, McCall Vineyards in Cutchogue, Shinn Estate Vineyards in Mattituck, A Taste of the North Fork, Satur Farms and Koppert Cress in Cutchogue, Sang Lee, KK Haspel’s Farm and Croteaux Vineyards and the North Fork Egg Farm in Southold. In Greenport is Mali B Sweets and in East Marion visitors can finish up with Lavender by the Bay.

New this year is a photo contest. Tour participants will have the chance to depict their favorite experiences and capture the unique North Fork ambience. Award winning photographer Harvey Hellering will judge entries. A past president of East End Arts Council, his work is shown at the prestigious Salmagundi Club and Gallery in Manhattan.
