Bridgehampton Food Truck Derby Update: Hibachi, Pizza, Tacos, Cupcakes and Kombucha

The Rolling in Dough pizza truck will be dishing its perfectly topped pies at the Food Truck Derby on August 10.

Come August, the best eating on the East End is usually done at home–fresh-from-the-farmstand tomatoes sliced and drizzled, bluefish stuffed with herbs and grilled whole. But what if, in some unprecedented–and extremely convenient–miracle, a caravan of food trucks from the city and Long Island popped up in a Bridgehampton field to serve tacos, dumplings, hibachi, pizza, fish sandwiches and all manner of deliciousness, alongside Empire State beer, wine and kombucha?

Well, no need to pinch yourself, because this is going to actually happen. At The Food Truck Derby at the Hayground School in Bridgehampton, attendees will sample a bonanza of eats rarely seen this side of the Canal–including tacos from the city and Montauk, the diverse Hibachi Heaven, and the highly-sought Greenport-based Rolling in Dough pizza whose toppings include everything from mashed heirloom potatoes, perfect prosciutto and local greens. Alongside these trucks will be all-you-can drink beer, wine, Carpe Diem Sweet ‘tauk lemonade from Montauk, Kombucha, coconut water from Zico and spring water from Apollinaris. After you’ve supped on the savories, stroll over to the SugarBakers Cupcake Truck out of Southampton, Silver Spoon Specialties (from East Hampton), and the Hampton Coffee Company espresso van. Even better, the event will benefit the Jeff’s Kitchen fund, devoted to teaching Hayground students and the wider community about the chain that connects local farms to how we live and eat. So, bring the whole family. The derby starts at 4 p.m., just as the Hayground summer camp day ends and as the Hayground farmers market gets rolling.
