The seasons are changing at Early Girl Farm in East Moriches. Owner Patty Gentry, who was featured in our High Summer 2011 edition, was closing up for the season on Saturday amid a Champagne toast, last minute purchases of Jerusalem artichokes and kale and a spread of cured meats, olives and cheeses from Tracy Slotkin of Red Bell Foods, who was featured in our High Summer 2012 issue. I’d like to think Edible has brought everyone together, but the food business is like any other: small. Six degrees of separation was too broad for the crowd assembled. Slotkin’s selection of imported cured hams (there was Parma and San Danielli being worked on a bright red hand-cranked slicer) as well as Charlito’s chorizo from Long Island City will be available in the barn on the farm next summer on the weekends. Baked goods from Catherine Brief will be on the menu, too. Stay tuned; news travels fast.
