There wasn’t a much better place to spend a sunny afternoon on Memorial Day weekend than the porch of Ruby’s Cove Bed-and-Breakfast on the corner of Bay and Carpenter streets in Greenport. Just to the south, next door, is the Greenport Harbor Brewing Company. The new upstairs tasting room was packed, with people tasting of course, but also with the parade of people walking the down the street with empty growlers, who were on their way to get them refilled with one of the brewery’s fresh ales, porters and IPAs. Two on tap were the new summer ale, and my favorite, the ruddy-colored Havre Rouge. The parade then reversed, and the filled, frosty growlers made their way back home.

Then, kitty-corner across the street, is the North Fork Oyster Company, where the raw bar menu was featuring oysters from Hog’s Creek and wild oysters from Virginia. The accommodating staff was more than happy to deliver a few dozen sitting on crushed ice accompanied by a tart mignonette. Delicious.

    You had Cornell Oysters of Hog Neck Bay from Southold, NY .  They are at the North Fork Oyster and are delicious!
