Support Your Local Farmers and Celebrate National CSA Day

Your local farmers show up for you all year. Show up for them by signing up to support their work on National CSA Day.

Long Island has come a long way since people said, “C. S.—what?” when they first heard of community supported agriculture. Now there’s a national CSA day and the third annual is this Friday, February 24. According to Small Farm Central, a Pittsburgh-based CSA management company, February is the best time to give farms the needed seed money to start their season knowing they won’t be in the red.

Farmers can add their CSAs to this (frankly fascinating) map of North America on the CSA Day website. (Check out  Pioneer Produce of North Pole in Alaska.)

Calverton’s certified organic Natural Earth Farms is on the map and suggests celebrating CSA day by using the hashtag #CSAday on social media. The farm has different pick-up locations across the island and is always adding more. Those who join early can take advantage of installment plans.

Below is the most current list of CSAs on Long Island. As always, let us know if we miss someone.

And remember: Spring is only a month away!
