The Newest Farmers Market

The latest edition to the expanding number of farmers markets on the East End opened last week.

The Route 27 Market is held each Wednesday on the grounds of the American Legion Post 419  on Montauk Highway at the corner of  Abraham’s Path.

Organizer Michael Vignapiano, a local caterer who has been using the Legion Hall as a commissary, spent some time driving to different markets in his area last summer: Fridays in East Hampton, Saturdays in Spring and Sunday in Montauk, when he looked around at the hall’s wide lawn, large parking lot and possibility of holding a market indoors if it rained.

Vendors lined up, and the market is cooking away. It’s first day saw a good number of customers braving the unseasonal heat.

“We’re the only one on Route 27,” said Vignapiano. “There’s a potential for a really big market here.”
